The Rabbit Film Section is a student run Blog, written by students, for students, but the beauty of a blog is its universality, so literally anyone can be made aware of the University of Essex.

Everyone, at some point of their life has to leave something they love, someone they love in order to progress, to grow as humans.

In a sense, we change just like any character in any Film, we have our own ‘character arc’, but, unlike Films, it is not written down on paper, in black and white, instead, we have to figure it ourselves.

Which is rather wonderful, first year is going to be tough because everything is new, unknown. But that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing, embrace it, embrace the madness because those three (or four) years will fly by.

First year is the opportunity to make good friends, have fun and learn in the subject which you love. Join societies, don’t be afraid to talk to people, because Freshers Week is the only time of the year where you can approach someone and it not be odd.

Independent Film is the theme of the issue which is out during Freshers Week, which seems rather appropriate because you will be independent and please do embrace it.

As a new term dawns, the University of Essex is preparing for a set of new students, Freshers, to enter in to the world of learning, laughter  and most of all, a chance to discover who they are.

Many an actor, producer and director used University to discover their career path. Gerard Butler (The Bounty Hunter) studied law at the University of Glasgow. Forest Whitaker (Last King of Scotland) graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in drama. Zach Braff (Scrubs) graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in film.

Clearly, education is key, it is also fun, it is a place where we can discover things, test our abilities. Although it is bound to be difficult, it is not goodbye, it is see you later.

The Past In Our Pockets, The Future In Our Hearts

There are moments in life, where we must learn from the past, quite often it shapes us and move onwards in to the future. And we must be a part of the present, the now.

Film makers are like that, quite often, their films reflect something of their past, some demon they are confronting. Legendary Director, Tim Burton (Frankenweenie) confronted one of his bullies in one of his best known films, Edward Scissorhands. The character Jim was a representation of all the jocks who bullied Burton at high school. And his end is rather dramatic, rather cinematic. But was one of the scenes which has made Burton such a brilliant director.

The Rabbit Film has had a momentous week this week, a week of firsts, a week of learning. And, a week of exclusives, for you. Keep your eyes peeled, for the coming term. It’s set to be a corker.
