How could we do a Current film issue without mentioning ‘The Hobbit’? This is a highly anticipated film, directed by ‘Lord of the Rings’ genius Peter Jackson.
If there is one thing Peter Jackson knows how to do, it’s getting bums on seats. He has an eye for big budget, high octane, fantasy drama films. Rounded off with an all-star cast which includes Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, Andy Serkis. Are now joined by Benedict Cumberbatch, Stephen Fry and Martin Freeman.
There is no doubt that this film will be a commercial success, with its predecessors grossing two point nine two billion worldwide. Clearly Jackson has hit upon a money making venture.
And Peter Jackson has also proved that he crosses genres, from fantasy, to drama, to comedy, to action. Jackson’s films seem to have everything. What is more, Jackson isn’t limited in the actors who he casts. Martin Freeman (‘The Office’) has been handed a once in a life time opportunity, to star in a sure fire hit, at its centre, as Bilbo Baggins.
With December Twenty Twelve set to be a big month for films, which includes ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Jack Reacher’ and Christmas film, ‘The Guardians’ all set to be released in a couple of months. There has never been a better time to stop writing essays, stop reading and head down to your local Odeon Cineplex.
