In Tim Burton’s latest film we are once again faced with the ‘outsider’, but in this case we are faced with a whole host of outsiders. Each of the protagonist (Victor Frankenstein’s) friends are odd.
This is a departure for Burton, whose films normally concentrate on simply one outsider, Edward in ‘Edward Scissorhands’, Victor in ‘Corpse Bride’ and Charlie in ‘Charlie in the Chocolate Factory’.
Sparky, the dog in question who is brought back to life. Is perhaps one of the best features of the film. He bounds eagerly across Burton’s suburbia, he whimpers when his master Victor leaves for school. He has a love interest. So, although he may not speak, he says a great deal to the audience.
