Anna Karenina

Words by Naomi Jeffreys

Joe Wright has unveiled the first trailer for his high budget, all star cast period piecefilm, Anna Karenina. The trailer looks excellent, and stars, to name but a few, Keira Knightley, Matthew Mcfadyen, Jude Law, Kelly McDonlad and a host of talented actors.

Joe Wright, an auteur director who is well known for his period pieces. His adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Predjudice cemented his name in Hollywood and within the hearts of the British public. The film received four Academy Award nominations and six BAFTA nominations, in which Wright won for Best Newcomer. The film had a worldwide gross of $121,147,947.

Clearly, Wright has a distinctive style, big budgets, all star cast and a number of actors who he uses in all of his films, (Knightley being his muse) and Macfadyen making an appereance in this soon to be Blockbuster.

The trailer sets up the film well; ‘Set in late-19th-century Russia high-society, the aristocrat Anna Karenina enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.’ Knightley carries the title role of Anna and is accompanied by a host of other actors, Ruth Wilson, Michelle Dockery – both of which are experts in the period drama genre of television and film.

With a film which is filled with sex, deceit, quality actors and a dramatic, theatrical director, this is a film which must be seen. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Leo Tolstoy, expect something fantastic from this brilliant period piece director.

Anna Karenina is expected to be released on September 7th 2012.
