You might recognise him for playing Eames, the best character from Inception, but the versatile Tom Hardy has been appearing in films since 2001. Black Hawk Down, Layer Cake, Rocknrolla and Bronson are just a few early titles that displayed Hardy’s talents. From a young age he was consistently working in film, television and theatre; picking up best new actor awards and modelling contracts along the way. Though it has not always been plain sailing; for some years he battled drugs and alcohol the cost of which was the ending of a five year marriage.
After returning to work Hardy played a massive array of characters; such as his role in the period drama The Virgin Queen to Bill Sykes in Oliver Twist. He appeared as Handsome Bob in Guy Richie’s Rocknrolla then totally transformed himself in the epic performance in Bronson. His continuous transformations showed his huge range and amazed critics. Hardy’s talents were recognised by receiving a British Independent Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Bronson.
Hardy now totally sober also set up an out reach program for those suffering with their own struggles and to help the disadvantaged write their own material for the stage and screen.
Since his breakthrough role in Inception Hardy has gone on to star in; The Dark Knight Rises, Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy, Warrior, This Means War, Wettest Country and is set to take on the role As Mad Max in the series Reboot. It seems as his talents have truly been recognised, I think it is safe to say that he wont have to wait to long before The Academy comes knocking…
